A Legacy Born from Heritage and Humanity
Ortir India’s journey began with a powerful influence: a family legacy rooted in the historic city of Lucknow and a chance encounter that ignited a dream. Growing up as the third generation of a family that moved from Lucknow - the Soul of Awadh - to Delhi, the heart of India, our founder was surrounded by rich culture and timeless traditions.
It was a childhood memory of founder’s grandfather - a disciplined man who worked for the government in Connaught Place, Delhi. One evening, as I sat with my siblings gathered around him, we all wore simple clothes, but his attire stood out. Curious about its uniqueness, I asked him about it. His response was simple yet profound - he spoke with pride about “khadi”-a coarse fabric of handmade threads, He
told the journey of his Kurta from cotton fields to Charkha to hand looms.
It was a movement that planted a seed in me. He deeply believed in supporting local artisans and celebrating Indian artistry.
“A portion must go to those creating these beautiful crafts - making India sustainable and strong.”
His love for Indian textiles, craft and Art and his commitment to their makers left an indelible mark”. Even after his passing in 2002, his values remained with us. Moving to Delhi in 2011, his words echoed in our hearts whenever we saw exquisite handcrafted fabrics.
We promised with ourselves “God has blessed me, I will do same as my grand father did to strengthen movement of a farmer, artisan and art of centuries old civilization in his throughout life.”
The values that guide us today were first carried forward by my father — his quiet love for khaddar, his choice of a simple kurta-pyjama, and a life lived with dignity rather than display.
In 2011, he made a decision that seemed, on the surface, like nothing more than a change of city. But in truth, it was a shift in direction — a moment that reshaped our lives, our thinking, and our future. That single choice became the compass that guided us forward.
Ortir India is not just a brand; it is the continuation of that legacy — shaped by two siblings, KritVed (B&S) — and rooted in values passed down through three generations.
My grandfather planted the first seed — simplicity, self-respect, and integrity woven into everyday life.
My father kept that seed alive through the way he lived, the choices he made and the guidance he gave us.
Today, we carry that legacy forward — with gratitude, responsibility, and purpose.
